Three Maltese bands that won
the Battle of the Bands competition will be playing at the Liverpool Mathew
Street Music Festival.
Mario Camilleri, Pres
(Production and Event Services) director, said up and coming bands Cable 35,
MindState and Fire will be performing at the festival on the pier
head main stage on the final night and will be filmed by the BBC which will
broadcast the images via satellite across the globe.
This year's festival is
expected to attract about 600,000 visitors from all over the world.
"This is fantastic promotion
for both the bands and Malta given the publicity they will get during this
four-day event held annually between August 25 and 28," Mr Camilleri said.
He explained that the Mathew
Street Music Festival started many years back when Liverpool's Cavern Club
management used to organise a small event, the Mathew Street event, for a
few bands. It grew so much that the management of the Cavern Club formed a
bigger company and called the event The Mathew Street Music Festival.
The bands will be performing
at the Cavern Club - the birthplace of The Beatles - one of the most famous
clubs in the world.
"The Cavern Club has a
schedule of bands performing there for the next six years but, through our
very good connections with Pete Best, the former drummer of the Beatles, and
Steve Jones, one of the Cavern Club's owners, we've managed to get the three
local bands to play there also," Mr Camilleri added.
