Mother’s Day

Annually during the month of May LCM organises what we call our ‘Mother’s Day Event’ were we invite our mothers, grandmothers and sometime aunt and great aunts too. This year we held the event on Thursday 19 May 2005. We started off with a Mass in St Mark’s Church, Siggiewi. This was built in 1608 and replaces another church which was originally dedicated to St John the Evangelist. Mass was celebrated by Fr John Avellino who spoke to us about the community work he carries out with underprivileged families in the Cottonera area. Funds collected today will be donated to Fr Avellino who takes care of underprivileged families in Birgu.

Following the our Secretary Yvette and her husband Alex Abela opened their charming and welcoming home – also in Siggiewi. Here guests we allowed to indulge and whet their appetite with the lovely spread which members prepared.

This year this activity was felt to be more important that that in other years since a mother is the one person in the world who definitely follows the LCM motto for the year: ‘Reach Out. . . I’ll Be There’. Nowadays women work, have careers are successful politicians and certainly make their presence felt the world over. But a mother is the most important creation to society.

The success of such events is very dependent on the sponsorships we receive, this time it was solely from our members. Proceeds collected during the evening will be donated to the Fr John Avellino Donation Fund.

Gentlemen’s Night

Another annual activity is Gentlemen’s Night were we entertain our partners. This year the date chosen was 18 June 2005 and we woke up to a weather forecast of rain. Not too pleasant! However the sky held, no rain came and it was a very pleasant evening.

Christa and Robert Aquilina kindly offered us their beautiful home to hold this event. The wonderful atmosphere Made the Difference to the party. Once again member’s culinary skills came into play and a lovely buffet was laid out for us all to relish. The menu was diversified but placed all together from all the different kitchens the end result was splendid. After all the hard work all members put it we sat and relaxed in the garden and enjoyed this fun event with background music cleverly choosen by yet another member and her husband. The success of such events is very dependent on the sponsorships we receive, this time it was solely from our members.

Proceeds collected during the evening will be donated to the Jeanne Antide Home, St Venera.
