Donations

The year 2005/2006 is drawing to a close for Ladies’ Circle Malta with their AGM being the next meeting on schedule.

It has been a very busy year for this club. The National Charity Project this year was ‘Beyond the Moon’ which deals with making the dream of children suffering from life threatening illnesses come true. The club has collected funds through the sale of ceramic Thimbles, organizing a Recital and the donation from Association of Round Tables Malta through the auction of a painting donated by Madeleine Gera.

However this was not sufficient to make a child’s dream come true so the club sent out letters of appeal to various local companies. The first and most substantial donation came from EC Language school. They donated the grand sum of Lm650 made up of funds collected by staff, directors and the company. On 20 March 2006 CEO Andrew Mangion presented the cheque to Ladies’ Circle President Kathleen A Flynn. Through this donation and funds already collected by Ladies Circle Malta a total of €4000 has been collected and the necessary paperwork is underway in order for a Maltese Wish Family to be sent.

In the meantime, other appeal letters were responded to by sundry companies and individuals and 60% of the amount required for a second wish family have been collected. Beyond the Moon Recital

One of our long standing members and past Chairlady Anette Cassar and her husband Richard kindly offered their home as a venue for a fund raising activity. They also suggested a Recital at Christmas Time. Through the assistance of our member and Past National President Karen Brisoce White we were fortunate enough to have two virtuoso Maltese artists: Rosetta Debattista and Gillian Zammit who accepted to perform for us.

Anette and Richard together with their daughter Annalise opened their heart and their home for this event on 11 December 2005. They left no stone unturned to ensure that their home was welcoming for all the guests. The atmosphere was brilliant, the Christmas decorations evidently done with taste, delicately positioned in the right places around the house. The sitting room and surrounding rooms turned into the perfect ambiance to sit and enjoy the melodious notes from the finely tuned piano skillfully played by Rosetta whilst listening to the beautiful harmonious voice of Gillian. Two fantastic, unassuming artists who one could see were genuinely pleased to be giving of themselves and sharing their talents for the less fortunate to reach a dream and go ‘Beyond the Moon’. Fifty diverse people of diverse ages attended this activity which was thoroughly enjoyed. The diversity of all these characters together with the perfect environment and the implausible performance made this evening exceptional. Our hosts also sponsored the drinks which included Marsovin wines whilst our members prepared a lovely spread of food which they personally sponsored.

During this evening we appreciated Maltese talent which went down well with Maltese wine whilst savouring exquisite Maltese food – all in the name of assisting a Maltese family and placing a smile on a Dying Child’s face – maybe for the last time!
